Daniel Urquijo

I am a PhD student in political science at the European University Institute. In 2024/25, I was a Fulbright visiting researcher at Stanford University and also visited the London School of Economics.

I am interested in the origins of discriminatory laws. Extensive research highlights their harmful effects on society, but we know surprisingly little about why such policies emerge in the first place. In my dissertation project, I focus on two historical cases of state-sponsored racial discrimination: apartheid in South Africa and Jim Crow in the American South.

I hold a Bachelor's degree from the University of Liverpool and a Master's degree from King's College London, both in political economy.
